Gourd and Paper Mache
Price: No Price
Availability: in stock

Years ago, Dottie and her husband lived on a farm in Ohio where she tended a garden.  One year she decided to grow some particularly strange shaped gourds and was fascinated with the variety that were harvested.  Not knowing what to do with these strangely shaped gourds, she stored them in her basement.  Even when they moved to Hickory, NC in 1996 she could not part with them.

After joining the art circuit in western North Carolina, Dottie noticed many of her chicken and fowl paintings were selling well and in what started as a bet with a friend she began creating chicken sculptures out of her beloved gourds and paper mache.

Her whimsical creations of animals and people made of these gourds and paper mache have been sold all over the state and through the years artists have always asked Dottie, “how do you do it?”  NewArt is pleased to offer Dottie’s first class of her famous gourd and paper mache sculptures.

Instructor:  Dottie McHugh
